Community Reviews
We really liked this community!!
reviewed on: 12/12/2016 by AnonymousThe staff at Highland House were sweet and attentive. There was always somebody in the dayroom to interact with. This is an older building, however they do keep it really clean. They offer comfort food and my loved one liked it. The administrative person went out of their way to assist us in moving him in. I would recommend this community.
Mom is adapting well.
reviewed on: 03/08/2017 by AnonymousThe staff is very professional and they are very good about updating us when any changes occur. I live in another area and I appreciate that their follow-up is so prompt. It's an excellent facility and I am very impressed. I would recommend Highland house to anyone who is looking for a senior community in the Clifton Forge area.
Look for something better..............
reviewed on: 10/17/2017 by Highland House StinksThis is not the place for a loved one to live!!! The staff lacks education, through the fault of management. Check out complaints filed through the Virginia Licensing Board. Management prefers residents that are dropped off by a loved one who is only going to visit them once in a while. If you are the type that would visit your loved ones often you will soon find out that there are a lot of things wrong. The activities that are suppose to happen to stimulate the residents, don't take place. The meal calendar is for show. For what a resident pays on a monthly basis, the residents should be eating better prepared meals. Instead all meals are prepared from the frozen food section of Kroger's. They are understaffed for the quality of care that should be provided to each resident. If they have a resident that requires two aides to care for a patient at bedtime, the other residents are left with their call button going off. Show up on a weekend to visit and you will find it hard to find a staff member or you will find them sitting in the community lobby and you will be able to see that no one has cleaned all day. The facility administrator currently their started off fine as a med tech but lacks experience with handling a loved ones concerns. She takes it personally and she becomes rude. Her staff have spoken about her inability to demonstrate leadership. This lack of leadership does not stop at her either. It runs clear up to her boss at the corporate level. That administrators' spouse is the Vice President of the company and if you try to speak with him about your concerns she will tell you she's as far as you will go. She comes off as caring for your loved one, but it is a fallacy. She has had several chances to improve the quality of care at this location and has always fallen short. Empty promised are all that they ever follow through on. I wish I would have never exposed my loved one to this place. They made the end of life experience for them to be one of anger, frustration, unneeded stress, and an ugliness that boarders on Elderly Abuse. Take you loved ones anywhere else, even if Highland House is close, go father.
