Top Cities That Aging Seniors Call Home
Forbes.com recently studied “aging America” and the impacts that aging seniors will have across the U.S.
Their research centered on which metropolitan cities have had the largest concentration of senior growth from 2000-2013, of which they found interesting results.
The top 10 cities reported to be aging the fastest in the U.S. include:
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Raleigh, North Carolina
- Austin, Texas
- San Jose, California
- Denver, Colorado
- Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas
- Jacksonville, Florida
- Houston, Texas
- Los Angeles, California
- Portland, Oregon
The growth has been attributed to the baby boomer generation reaching 65 years old, in addition to the U.S. fertility rate falling:
“Since 2000, the senior population has increased 29% compared to [an] overall population growth of 12%… and their share of the population is projected to climb to 19.3% by 2030.”
Regions that have the highest reported concentration of seniors include the state of Florida, the Midwest and Northeast, according to the Assisted Living Federation of America.
