reviewed on: 02/23/2019 by Janie DMy father in-law was at Southern Care for about 3 years and we were pleased with the care. After a bad experience with as assisted living facility in Donelson, we decided to move our mother to Southern Care. It’s not the fanciest with all the bells and whistles, but it is clean, small enough that patients actually are called by their name. Home cooked food (actually seasoned and not packaged) and family members can have a meal without any cost. Very little employee turnover, most of the workers were still there from several years ago. I was impressed when we walked in and they still remembered us from when my father in-law was there. Meal time can be challenging no matter what facility. Yes, people in wheelchairs are lined up waiting to be seated, did bother me at first, but I don’t know any other alternative. Safe, caring and affordable.
We Will Use Them Again
reviewed on: 09/03/2013 by VirginiaMy mom is not one to participate in activities. I know they have a fair amount and a variety planned. She went to one musical program. We used them for respite care and I've already called them to use them again. I think that says it all. We were very satisfied. It's a smaller place. They probably don't have 50 or 60 residents so it's not overwhelming like some other places.
beauty within
reviewed on: 12/16/2020 by Christy WThey treated my mom like she was a member of the family, they were so kind and they communicated well with the family especially during the pandemic. I would definitely recommend this community to others.
Our Experience
reviewed on: 10/06/2021 by anonymousShe's still getting to know the place and adjusting. It's all new to her, and it's been a really big adjustment. It's the cheapest place and best price I could find, which is why we considered it. But I would say you get what you pay for. They're just coming out of the pandemic too. They're having problems with staffing, just like every place else. I've talked with them about it, and they're working on it. And it's getting better. It's not a bad place. I know that my loved one is safe there. On occasion when I've tried some of the food off her plate, it's been good. I think the main problem is they mix the dementia care residents in with the regular elderly care, and that seems to be a problem. I think if they had more staff, that could be more manageable. I just know that all the other places I toured had separate units for memory care vs. regular residents. Also the people who handle the medical are hard to get ahold of. And I wish the doctor had a more pleasant bedside manner. But I don't want to be harsh on Southern Care. The staff there are great. I've become friends with a lot of them. Lockdowns are diminishing, and when I talk to my loved one, she and I have decided to stick it out and see how things change as the world goes back to normal.
The only thing that I didn't like was the way the showers were set up.
reviewed on: 09/10/2015 by AnonymousWe checked this place out. The only thing that I didn't like was the way the showers were set up. The showers were shared with another person, you had a private toilet and a door that led to the shared shower. It was just a bit of a turn off for us.
