A Great Place for Your Loved One
reviewed on: 09/27/2021 by AndyIt was a great place with great staff. There were no problems during the move in. The community took care of everything my loved one needed. The food was good. One of the activities my loved one enjoyed was bingo.
So lucky to have found Portland Place!
reviewed on: 10/21/2021 by Sandi MMy 90+ year old parent's moved in in April and immediately felt comfortable and at home. They loved their apartment, the food, and especially the staff. Dad's health issues got the best of him and he passed in Aug., receiving wonderful care by both the staff and hospice. Soon after we moved mom into a studio apartment where she is happily residing, in spite of the fact she misses my dad terribly. The staff has been helping mom through this terrible time as much as my husband and I- they are so supportive, caring, understanding and loving with her it brings tears to my eyes. Mom loves the activities available, especially bingo, and is thrilled when Henry, the house cat, visits. Today they are going on a "field trip" to get ice cream. The facility is small, so mom does not get lost in the crowd. All the staff is wonderful, including the support people, and everyone pitches in when needed and necessary. They are all like family and treat the residents like family. Mom is happy!
The Staff Are Attempting Everything
reviewed on: 03/28/2017 by AnonymousMy mom's care is going as expected. She is being a little tough and the staff are trying their best to get her to feel comfortable and transition well. The staff also help with her medication. She is eating better, I know that for sure. She is slowly making friends and attempting activities. The community is a clean environment.
Overall a Safe, Secure, Community for Your Loved One
reviewed on: 05/18/2021 by DianaI would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. This is a smaller community. You can get answers to your questions, and sometimes it is hard to leave messages for our loved one to call us back. They are going through an administrative change and staff changes recently. Our experience has been during COVID, and this can make some of this harder for our loved one and family. They have better at cost effectiveness than some other communities in the area. They also have a memory care unit. The staff take care of reminding to get up, bed time, and medication distribution. We had anticipated more activities for memory and one-on-one care for the residents in the memory care unit.
Believe it or not smoking is allowed
reviewed on: 07/25/2017 by AnonymousMy mother in law had heard good things about this place from other people so she had decided before even touring the community that this is where she wanted to go. After touring this community she knew this was the right place for her. The staff is extremely accommodating to her. When she moved in they chose her room location based on the fact she was a smoker. There is a wonderful courtyard that is a designated smoking area with a swing and a sitting area and it's not too far for to walk too. The staff has been open to all of the families concerns and request. We had mentioned that she is not a morning person so they have made arrangments to bring her breakfast to her and make sure she has her medicines in the morning. Even though my mother in law thinks she is independent enough to do her own medicine we had expressed our concerns to the staff and they ensured us that they would handle her medication and they explained it to her in a way that was respectful and not degrading to her in any way. She uses their transportation services to go to and from the doctor's appointments which are very helpful. She loves the food and the residents there.
