What matters is: Mom Loved the Kempton
reviewed on: 05/10/2020 by Ginger WhaleyMy mother lived at the Kempton for about a year and a half before she passed away unexpectedly in late 2019. She loved it there! They had lots of activities that she enjoyed and she made many new friends there. I always found the staff to be friendly & caring and the facility was always clean. Mom had some dementia and repeated herself alot but they always had patience with her. I would recommend it to anyone.
WOULD NEVER EVER PUT MY LOVED ONE HERE
reviewed on: 02/20/2019 by AnonymousNothing felt right. I walked in the assisted living place, and... I just could not take the smell. It was some type of cleaner and it was overbearing. Then... a staff member was on a pager. BEEP BEEP BEEP. I asked really loud, "What is that noise"... and the person did not stop it, nor did the tour guide stop it. I stated I had tone issues in my ear. The smell... the cleanser, OVERWHELMING! Then, I was brought into the admin person's office. EXACTLY at my appt time. Not a second earlier, even though I had been sitting outside for 10 mins. I found this a tad.... weird. She did not get up to shake my hand. And, she told me my loved one belonged in the "nursing home". I felt a sorta, hmmm, what is the word, snobbiness about her. I did not feel right at all. Oh, he "belonged" in nursing home because he needs help (someone watching) while he takes shower. Really???? The "assisted living" might as well be INDEPENDENT LIVING! UNREAL! What IS assisted living??????? If they have to do pretty much everything on their own. I was sickened already. I figured I would check the nursing home out, and OMG, I would never, ever put my loved one there. It felt sterile, old and icky. I RAN out of there.
Kempton: More like independent Living Than Assisted Living
reviewed on: 10/08/2019 by AnonymousThe Kempton provides very little assistance and is more like independent living. If you have any mobility issues or cognitive issues, you should find another place. As the daughter of a former resident, I found the administrator to be uncaring, rigid, and inflexible. Her solution to every problem is to put a resident on 24 hour, 30 minute checks indefinitely, despite the recommendation of a physician, family member, or the resident herself. The best decision we ever made was to move my mother to another place that actually cares about her and puts her interest and well-being first. On the positive side, the meals were good, and the CNAs and Med Techs seemed to be trying their best, despite being overworked in a poorly managed facility. If you are interested in independent living, then the Kempton might work for you. However, if you need assistance, try somewhere else.
The Kempton
reviewed on: 10/26/2017 by AnonymousMy mother used to live at the Kempton. We were having a lot of difficulty with the administration. We went through the process, and moved her in, but about three weeks after being there, they began charging us and extra $500 a month because she started having issues with incontinence. Additionally, my mother is a very social person, but the staff there decided she needed to be monitored every 30 minutes because they felt she was too friendly with the other residents. They tacked on another $800 a month for the monitoring. They really weren’t giving the needed care to begin with. Needless to say, we chose another community that takes much better care of her.
