Myrtle is a small, unincorporated community in Oregon County, Missouri. It is fourteen miles southeast of Alton near the Arkansas state line.Myrtle currently has several churches, a post office, public library, senior center, fire department, pre-owned auto dealership and bodyshop, a mechanic garage, small diner, a tavern, a popular convenience store, feed store, and a fertilizer and seed store.A pastoral, agricultural area, Myrtle is surrounded by grass pastures with cow/calf beef operations of varying size and many productive hay fields. Hogs are raised in area, including a unique pasture-raised pork operation serving a clientele consisting of gourmet restaurants nationwide.School-age children and adolescents attend Couch Public School, a few miles north of town on Highway 142Nearby recreational and boating opportunities are found along the Eleven Point River at the former Caldwell Ferry, now known as The Narrows Highway 142 Access and operated by the U.S. Forest Service, and at a Missouri Department of Conservation area known as Myrtle Access, locally known as the old Stubblefield Ferry.Myrtle Yester-Daze is a popular community festival held each September.
