My Mother at Home in Trail Creek Assisted Living
reviewed on: 04/10/2019 by Sheila BurkhartAlthough Trail Creek Place Assisted Living is an older facility, it has a homey atmosphere. The apartments are not as large as the newer facilities, but they are comfortable and roomy enough for my Mother, who even brought a couple of her bigger furniture pieces that were special to her. It is not as large as some of the other facilities and perhaps this also makes a difference. But what really makes a difference here are the caring staff members (CNAs, Nurses, Activity persons, Kitchen cooks and the office staff). It is all hands on deck at Trail Creek as they work together as a team in relationship to the residents care and happiness. The policy at Trail Creek is to provide personalized care and attention, which means the staff learns and remembers the particulars of how each resident wants to be assisted and what little things they can do to provide them some additional happiness. In my Mothers case, the little things include being able to have friendly conversations with her aides and everyone knows she loves her coffee, so they all make sure she has fresh coffee at hand. All are very familiar with each of their needs and wants, although this must be hard for new staff members to learn and remember. But they seem to pick it up within a few days. My Mother has lived here for almost two years (she moved to Trail Creek within a few months of my father's passing) and has found a home for herself. She has made friends with both the residents and staff. She was able to bring her own bird feeders which she has set up outside of her bedroom window, along with other residents. She refused to move, even during a short period a year ago where they were experiencing staffing shortages and other issues. She was correct in believing they would be able to overcome those issues, despite my own doubts at the time. They made a believer out of me. Trail Creek Place Assisted Living is a one level building that is easy to maneuver, with a comfortable courtyard and it has numerous gathering areas for the residents to do activities, play games and cards, watch movies, and more. I visit several times a week at varying hours, know almost all of the residents and rarely come at a time when many are not gathered in the main living room watching movies or tv together and more are often in one of the many side areas playing games and cards or doing puzzles. The dining room doubles as a place to do larger craft activities, have musical entertainment, as well as provide meal service. They have coffee, flavored waters and fruit/snacks available 24 hours a day. Having checked out other facilities, I have to say that Trail Creek offers more varied daily activities than anyone else in the area. They have exercise sessions, trivia, musical performances (professional, volunteer and schools groups as well), crafts, socials, and many trips out each month to local restaurants, shopping, scenic drives and a trip to the local casino. They also offer more in house church services due to the partnerships with various churches in the area. My Mother has recommended Trail Creek to some of her friends and others, including my Aunt who also recently moved there. Despite my Mother's physical disabilities, her mind is sharp and she misses nothing. The fact that she recommends Trail Creek to others is quite a positive statement.
Came away very impressed--for 3 reasons
reviewed on: 09/04/2019 by KJTrail Creek Place was one of several assisted living facilities in LaPorte County that I visited a couple of weeks ago. I was very impressed with this particular place and here's why: During the tour that I was given, I saw a lot of interaction between residents. Instead of everyone being isolated in their rooms in the middle of the afternoon, I saw quite a few people sitting in a common area in the front of the building. There were people at tables--playing games, talking, laughing with each other. There were a variety of activities mentioned that are available to Trail Creek Place residents. Not just the usual bingo and so on. There's even an opportunity for residents to help raise money for different charities such as Salvation Army--which I thought was very cool. Secondly, the spacious courtyard seems like an unusually pleasant place to enjoy some outdoor time--like when a family is visiting, for example. The exterior looks well kept and the neighborhood is nice. (The facility is near Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Franciscan Medical Center.) I was most impressed by the sincere nature of the person who gave me the tour--Tricia. Her presentation was relaxed and down-to-earth instead of hard-sell, and I was able to learn a lot during the tour and during our discussion without feeling pressured to move forward in the least. Perhaps that may say something about how this facility does business.
An excellent place for our loved one

Trail Creek Place- a great place for dad!
reviewed on: 06/04/2018 by Carol StonerI’ve been so concerned about yet another adjustment! It seems he has had to make so many and that is one of the hardest things for a person with dementia. When I think about it, he was in the hospital twice in a month (September 2017—mind you after not having EVER been admitted to any hospital save when he had thyroid surgery over 35 years ago) and once for major surgery—under spinal anesthesia!, then rehab, then moved to skilled nursing, then moved to a dementia/Alzheimer’s Unit, then to the hospital in Mishawaka, and now to (lovely) Trail Creek. He’s had to adjust to an indwelling catheter, life in a wheelchair after a fairly active lifestyle formerly, a few urinary tract infections, a bout of pneumonia……all within six months. Tricia, we are so thankful for the warm welcome. Really! Everyone was incredibly welcoming at a time when we were ALL nervous. We are thankful for the effort being made to ease his transition and the grace you are showing him during this stage of his life. Your update made my day. Your facility’s communication skills (you, Leanna, the executive director, Antoinne, the aide on afternoon shift yesterday—her name escapes me, to name a few) have greatly surpassed anything we have experienced to date. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for caring for our dad. Gratefully, Carol Stoner
The people that make it work wellA
reviewed on: 07/01/2018 by Roy CohenI have found that the people who work at Trail Creek Place In Mich. City, Indiana work very well together as a team. I can tell that from the start when we moved my mother-in -law out of the first location to Trail Creek place. I would check in with her 3-4-5 times a week to see how she was doing. I found that she would tell me that the people would spend time talking to talk to her and other people. As time passed the needs of my mother changed. I went to Trail Creek Place for I knew that would be the correct place for my mother. I know that day my mother moved in was a very hard day for her and me. Roy Cohen
