The Academy and their memory-care facility: very different
reviewed on: 11/12/2016 by AnonymousThe Academy itself—the topic of the stars in my review—is fabulous. However, their memory care facility, which is called the Bella Vista, is not. If your loved one is completely docile, it's a lovely place. If he or she becomes at all unruly, however, the nursing staff reacts by insisting that the family hire personal caregivers—and by calling 911. They are very quick to judge normal dementia behaviors as unruly and they will even manipulate information in order to justify that the behavior qualifies as "danger to self or others." This issue is exacerbated by their requirement that all medical communication flow through the facility's nursing staff. Read their "Care we provide" document very carefully to learn what care and support they do and do not provide, and be aware of deceptive wording; for example, most of the meals are cooked by the staff, not created by chefs at the Academy.
