The holidays are filled with family, friends and festivities — but it can be a less than cheerful time for seniors who may feel isolated in senior living.
Many recognize this issue and have set apart time to bring joy to assisted living communities and their residents this holiday season. Learn more about how they’re spreading holiday cheer.
Bringing Joy to Assisted Living This Holiday Season
Although young, many preschool and elementary students already understand the importance of spreading cheer to senior loved ones during the holiday season.
That’s why schools across the U.S. chose to visit their local assisted living communities to share their joy with senior residents. School children from Carmel, Indiana and youth in Green Valley, Arizona each made time to visit senior living communities and “make the holidays especially beautiful for residents this year,” according to an article.
Students from Carmel are said to have sang carols like: “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” and passed out cards and hand-decorated ornaments to assisted living residents. Their teacher, Krista Shields, said of the students:
“Even though they’re young and small… they have very big hearts and like to give back.”
Students from Green Valley are said to have created 2,800 paper snowflakes to help decorate Prestige Assisted Living, and also sang carols like “Jingle Bells,” to residents. According to the article, the carols were so popular, that the senior living community “requested an encore.”
